Time to celebrate: the 75th anniversary of the original Farmers Market in LA (at Third and Fairfax) is on July 13-19.
The French Crepe Company is one of my favorites of the market, offering made-to-order sweet and savory French crepes stuffed full of things like Nutella and bananas, smoked salmon and capers, or chicken, mushrooms and dijon sauce.
For the food lovers, the Taste of Farmers Market event is on Tuesday, July 14 from 5pm-9pm. Virtually all of the 36 Farmers Market restaurants will be sampling foods from their menus (sliders and French toast and sandwiches and corned beef) along with gifts and special discounts from the grocers and vendors at the Market. This is a fantastic opportunity to taste the best foods of one of the best L.A. markets, at the price you would normally spend on going out to a nice dinner anyway.
Admission is only $20 ($25 for two drink tickets) – it includes all food sampling. $45 gets you drink tickets and The Original Farmers Market Cookbook. Bring non-perishable food items to benefit the West Hollywood Food Coalition.
Other highlights of the anniversary event:
- Wednesday, July 15: big-band Dean Mora and orchestra will be in the Market Plaza playing tunes from 6:30-9pm.
- Thursday, July 16: the birthday party at the clock tower, with L.A.’s largest birthday card, a giant Clock Tower cake, marching band, music and entertainment. Ceremony starts at 8am, events start at noon.
- Saturday, July 18: the Radio Disney Street Team will be out and about starting at 11am.
