Why does no one else get excited about potlucks like I do?
Perhaps it’s because I’m coming from the single, recent college grad, too-long-commute point of view — but it’s still hard for me to understand how people can’t love such loveable things:
- abundant amounts of food, much of it homemade
- a break from sack lunches or cafeteria food
- a legitimate excuse to socialize and not do work, at least for a half hour or so
There is so little labor that goes into it (I am known for a mean bean dip and pasta salads), but so much reward — like those pretty little deviled eggs, spicy enchilada casseroles, a big piece of meat, crackers and fancy cheeses, pies and cookies and wine and good conversation.

You know where I stand on potlucks. One word: G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S.
I love potlucks! It's a perfect way to try new recipes from places you least expect.
thought that said hot potting. potlucking blows cuz people bring stupid isht, and the host always get stuck w/ the biggest bill.
hot potting OTOH, the host still gets the biggest bill, but at least everyone cooks their own isht and the host gets to eat what he/she wants.
You know, that's so interesting you said that, SinoSoul, because I've never tried hotpotting at home/parties — I assume you meant at home and not a restaurant. What exactly does that look like?
